6 Heartbreaking Reasons why we are not Making Good Money out of Blogging

Making good money out of blogging may be the most popular topic one can find, and there are hundreds or even thousand bloggers who are teaching us how to do it. But why are we not achieving it?

If you will notice, I used the term we since I am also in the same situation. So if you expecting me to give you some good sites to join in, sorry I cannot share one right now although I know some. But if you are not interested to know why you are not getting good money out of blogging, then I suggest you finish reading this post. But I must warn you; this post is quite long as I am going to be as detailed as possible.

So why are we not making good money out of blogging? Here are some of the heartbreaking reasons and how we can cope up with them.

Because we are young and impatient

This is the problem by most youth bloggers, as they are aggressive but impatient. They like to make good money out of blogging but they hate reading long but useful posts. Most of them are contented with PTC sites and forcing their mouse and fingers to be faster than the speed of light. Although there is nothing wrong with it, but give me a break. There is really no good money out of it. We have to read, learn and apply them, as making money out of blogging has many opportunities just waiting to be discovered. However, we must be patient because there are no shortcuts or magic hidden inside.

Because we are good

Being good cannot give us good money in blogging, as there are hundreds of thousands of bloggers around who may be better than us. It is hard to win visitors and make them our consistent followers, and if they find other blogs that are greater than ours, they will easily unsubscribe to us. We may have a lot of true friends, but they are only a small fraction and we cannot expect them to click our adsense every time they visit. Therefore, we should create posts, not just write them. We should promote our blog like a hungry lion. We must aim to be the best among the rest.

Because we listen to what experts say

Experts spend years just to become one, so we must not expect them to share to us all their techniques. It is very helpful if we read posts of a top blogger who is earning a six-digit figure, and follow his tips. But it does not follow that we can do exactly what he did, and then blame him if it did not work. We must know how to read between the lines. In short, do not listen to what experts say and study them instead. Affiliate marketing is a good source of income, but convincing power of the affiliate that will attract buyers. We must master the art of selling.

Because we are not spending

We want to earn good money and yet you are not spending a single penny. Well, that’s great. I am not saying that it is not good to start with a blogspot blog, but what is $30 for hosting and a domain name if you can have more chance to earn than using a free service? Darren Rowse of Problogger hired some technical guys and if he did not do it, it may take longer before he is where he is now. Time will come that we must spend money for advertising, SEO and reading materials. Business is about taking some risks, and we need to invest in order to gain.

Because we are overspending

We may be earning but how much money has you spent? When should we use an expensive hosting service? Should we buy a theme to make our blog look more professional, or choose among the free ones that are almost equally attractive? How much should we really spend to advertise our blogs? These are only some of the questions that we cannot just ignore. Making good money out of blogging requires basic knowledge about Accounting and Business Management, because this will guide us to how to be a wise spender. Again, business is about taking risks but we must find ways to reduce it.

Because we are not destined to be one

You may raise your eyebrows, and I understand you. I do not believe in luck, but I believe in destiny. No matter how hard we study and apply what we learn, there are just some things that we cannot do. Every person has its own limitation and we must accept that. Success is not just about faith and passion, it is also being the right person at the right place, at the right time. It is impossible that all of us can have a blog worth $15M as there can only be one John Wu. After all, there are other ways to making good money not related to blogging.

The richest businessman in the world is the one who have mastered the flow of money.

I agree that it is hard to make money as a blogger. Most of the time it is because we lack the proper knowledge and good plan to execute.
Hope that you be able to draw in more readers/money via your blog :)

    Angel,

Good post, it can be very difficult to make money blogging. Right now I make enough to cover my hosting expenses which is all I ask for. I want to make a living wage from blogging some day but for the time being I look toward putting in hard work to gain subscribers and with that I know the money will eventually come.

Hi Angel, another masterpiece article eh? I agree to everything that you said here. It is hard to earn money from blogging.

I view make money blogging as a business - one needs to have a good business plan for it. Most of the time, making money with blogging is a misnomer - I have earned some money online, but its not just through my blog, although I used my blog as my “marketing” tool.

Again, its a business, so it needs lots of hardwork, patience and some investments - and you may have to hire some help if you want to earn more.

Indeed not too many bloggers will become rich via blogging. I started blogging and adsense 2 weeks ago. My first week of earnings was 0.02c, not even enough for my domain fee of $4.99 a month. Happy Blogging to All!

After more than a year of experience in blogging, I should say that earning from blogs is really a tough task. If we consider it as a business (more than a personal diary), then we should make a clear business model. I’m still a newbie in blogging, but then I love experimenting. Yes, online gurus can share something, but just like what you’ve said, they can’t share it all, so we must discover some things proactively through our own ways.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this post. It helps a lot, especially for us newbies.. Looking forward for more interesting posts..

Every blog has a different reason for being. Goldenzen is their for offering my love and blessing to the world. THINK TUB Business Blog is there to offer credibility behind my consulting and THINK TUB practices. Another blog of mine is being established to promote businesses that use the Triple Win Strategy, and it’s purpose is to be a money maker. So each blog has a different reason, and a different method. Thanks for your great tips! I like the don’t listen - watch! We are watching you Angel. :-)

Bloggista - Very true. I believe that blogs can be used as marketing tool to other ways of making money on-line, and not focus on the blog itself.

Ambo - Thanks for your confession. Hope I can make your subscription worthwhile.

David - With all due to respect, I think you are a bit overspending. As I have mentioned in my post, we muse be a wise spender. I am blogging for more than a year and I bought a domain last July only, when I was sure that this is my path.

Joliber - I can say that I am still a newbie and just like you, I am also doing doing some experiments. Hopefully, both of us can make it “there”.

Harmony - Thanks for watching as I love to be watched. Good luck to your blog.

nice article, you hit the spot on being impatient, you need to stick to one plan and get better on it before you go try the next thing. jumping from one plan to another is good but the results are minimal.

    Hello father blogger,

I do agree that its a question of destiny whether one will make money or not out of blogging. Not all of us will make a million dollars from blogging but if I’ll have to make an educated guess, all of us can earn depending only on one’s effort.

    More posts and God Bless!

    Hi Angel,

At first, I thought of making money thru blogs. In fact, the first money that I received was a $10 paypal payment when I sold my “Aspiring Entrepreneur” blog to an indian national! I regreted it later on because I learned that he used it to make more money and he said that he raked in about $300 thru sponsored posts. That blog which I started last 2006 was the number 1 result in Google for the key phrase Aspiring Entrepreneur back then.

Then the second paypal came in during payperpost. After that, matched payments. I’m not really good in making money online.

Recently, I hired a web developer to have a professional blog on wordpress. And that’s where “Millionaire Acts” was born. In my case, I optimized the adsense. Not only my blog was a useful tool in achieving financial freedom but also a way for me to get hired as I included it in my resume which I passed to finance head hunters worldwide.

I do hope that I could get a finance job abroad in the future. :)
