The Latest Online Suicide Victim and How to Stop others
Just recently, a 19-year old MySpace member committed suicide during a live self-broadcast on a certain forum. He even left a suicide note, which is now being posted on forums such as here and here. This news was confirmed true, and the case is now considered close. But for us who are still living, the tendency of a similar case is always possible.
Any family member can commit suicide anytime, and this phenomenon is somehow unpredictable. The decision does not consider age, sex, race and religion. People commit suicide is because of untreated depression. This depression has many causes and the most common ones are horrible disappointments, great loss and hopelessness in life. However, there are signs that can make us conclude that committing suicide will be his next option. Here are some of them and hopefully, you will not take them for granted.
Vocal about death
Although you might think that a family member is not serious about it, do some actions before blaming yourself in the end. You must stop him from saying that he does not want to live anymore; he hates his life and things like that. The best thing you can do is to listen to all his complains about life. A suicidal person needs an inspirational conversation, not silence.

Doing weird actions
On the contrary, there are people who suddenly becomes quiet in sharing his problems. Other weird actions may include giving away his valuable things, always irritable, less concentration about things; and negative change of physical appearance and behavior. With this, all family members should be very sensitive about the sudden change and immediate communication with him is required. Have time to lend your ears, not your anger.
Performing poorly
This includes performing at work or in school. Some students are afraid to bring humiliation to the family because they have very high expectations to him but failed. Some businessmen and workers commit suicide because they fear that they cannot be able to recover again after a great loss. They should be calmed down and help them wholeheartedly. Blaming them will not help anyway.
Loosing sense of humor
Be worried if a family member stops from smiling and making others laugh. Although you do know that he is a serious type of person, he still must have some funny notes. Taking life too seriously does not only make one unhealthy, it can also easily trigger depression. This habit should be changed and we as his love one should encourage him to join you in fun times.
Drug dependency
Drug dependents and addicts are most likely to commit suicide. This is because of the effect of what they are taking. They are always hallucinating and are becoming to be mentally ill. Unfortunately, some families reject their members who are victims of drugs instead of letting him be treated. Their reason may be due to lack of money or to maintain their high status in the community. I can frankly say this is a stupid kind of reasoning.
However, there are also people who commit suicide without any sign at all. This is because they are good in hiding their feelings and problems. All we can do is to know all our family members well, have a constant and open communication with them. Provide immediate help once we know about it.
In addition, some suicide survivors have a tendency to do it again so we must not just leave them in a hospital during the treatment. Someone close to him should always be beside him. More than medical doctors; he needs someone who can understand him.

Very sad to hear this bit of news. This is one reality we must all be aware of. I never put pressure in any member of my family. The first time my daughter lost a cellphone from bad elements of our society, I just shrugged my shoulder and tell her that their life is more important that those cellphone. We lost a total of 4 cellphone( to this date) but I never showed any mode of anger.I do believe that many of us had a friend, neighbor or a relative that had died from suicide.Hope we could lend a helping hand the next time we see those characters traits mentioned above manifesting to anybody.
i was gonna comment, i’ll just write an entry and link you up.
Suicide is the number four cause of death in South Korea. Their culture contributes to this. I’ve been here for a little less than 2 years but I can say that Philippines is a far better place to live in.
That is very alarming. I would never ever think to watch that broadcast. It is a blessing that no person close to me has committed suicide.
Eeeek! That’s scary. That poor kid must have lead a loveless life for even thinking of doing something like that. I can be all weird and depressed at times but suicide is just not (fortunately) one of my options. (Haha)
astig tong pag suicide nya ah unique
may live online streaming nga.. maka isip nga ng mas unique na paraan.. hehe
saw it on yahoo buzz yesterday, although i didn’t pay much attention to it because i was searching for a business article.
read it on the newspaper today though… what’s sad is that some of those viewing him was even egging to take the medicines as if it was just a joke…
somebody called the police, but it was too late.
The harsh realities of life. Its always sad to hear horrible stories such as this one… Very depressing. May GOD blesses his soul.
Pmonchet – You are right with your decision about cell phone, as I believe we can still buy them but we cannot bring back the lost lives. I really hope that he will be the last victim, that’s why I included some tips here.
Reynz- This is wise decision. We must spread the word, so we can help others before it’s too late.
Krislan – Thanks for sharing the data of South Korea and yes, I still believe that Philippines is a better place to live in.
Roy – Unfortunately, his audience thought he is not serious about it. I just hope the reports will not sensationalize the issue but provide tips instead.
Bloggista – Reality bites, and this one is only one of them. I hope parents learn a good lesson from this, that children is very vulnerable.
Wow it is really sad, depression really can be the trigging point. They definitely needs help.
This is really a sad news. I guess all we can do now is to pray for the person and remind our children to talk to us should he or she is having depression or personal issues.
I’ll also do a blog on this and link you up Kuya Angel so that we can spread the awareness towards our Pinoy teenagers.
There’s a lot of reasons why people commit suicide…
personality disorders
ADHD or attention deficiency
Frustrations and disappointments
Love problems, etc…
Suicide is actually an uncontrollable thing…
I read about the event on newspaper and I was really shocked and disturbed by that event. The news item even said that there were callers who were actually persuading the writer to go ahead and commit suicide. That the writer was suffering from severe bipolar disorder did not even elicit mercy and compassion from the viewers. What a sad and disturbing atmosphere we have in the internet. I wish authorities will try to come up with measures to prevent these things from happening again. Thanks for the disturbing post. God bless you always.
@SEO Tools – I believe that we have a different point of view as I do perceived that suicide is a controllable thing. In my perspective, if the family talks to the kid more often and give emphasis to value life – I guess the suicidal thoughts will banish.
Just my 2 cents here.
Snow – It is really a big help if we can share this to everyone, and I agree with you about SEO tools” comment. Although I think that he thinks it is uncontrollable because it is the person who will really decide, but still we can divert his mind to do better things.
Mel – This is the reason why I made this post a bit different, and not just talking about the incident. However, I believe that it is really the family that should be aware on what’s happening to every member. The authorities can only help a bit.
Abraham Biggs was suffering from bipolar disorder, at least that’s what his family told the police. It it’s true, then his problems may have been aggravated by his condition. Still, what he did what disturbing.
But what was more disturbing was the case of a British man who killed himself on live webcam last year – by hanging !
This is a very sad news. Many teenagers now are having different serious problems which lead them to do certain foolish things.
Hello Po sir.
I didn’t know that there is a case of online suicide. I just watched a few months ago the movie “untraceable” and I didn’t know that this bloodbath is happening in real life. Like Reynz, I hope you don’t mind if I pick up this entry of yours this coming weeks and link you up as well. This is very disturbing.
Anyhow, thank you for dropping by my site. It was actually Dfish’s idea. The group just tapped me to host it on my blog because they are all using wordpress.com, and they said launching it on my dot net blog has a politiccal reason, whatever that means.
That is true, It doesn’t matter if we do the tag or not. Actually the truth is, its only for information dissemination and the tags are meant to confirm the status of the spread. And I absolutely agree on your take, the most important thing is we pray for the coming leader this 2010, with or without meme. We really hope that all of us Filipinos would pray for our incoming leader. having said, I am still full of hope that our prayers would all adhere into one big cry to the heavens, regardless of religion and dialect. I know that the Lord is not deaf. and like the israelites, the Filipinos have suffered enough. If we can’t unite our actions, therefore let us try to unite in prayer, at least for starters.
Have a nice week ahead of you dear bro.
Pax et Bonum
PS. Congratulations on the book you’ve won. Its a nice book. I’m still looking for it everywhere.
Bluep – Of course, I won’t mind using my post to spread the news. In fact, my main purpose of creating this post is for all of us to be aware that committing suicide is a big problem of families and society as well.
Thanks for the congrats and hopefully, you can go back when I share what I will learn from the Problogger book. It is really a nice one, and worth to share.
