How to Motivate your Kids in Reading Books
Reading books can help our kids to increase their knowledge about different things. Books can also keep them away from the bad influences around him. Although kids can get a lot of information on line, books are still more fun to use and can be read anywhere. However, some kids find it as a boring activity, especially if there are other attractive things around them.
That’s why it is important to have a collection of good books at home. As early as you can, have your kid be familiar with them. When he starts recognizing them, it will be easier for you to offer them. Allow your kid to scatter them on the floor, and let him choose the pages he wants to view. Of course, he will not be reading them yet, but it is a good introduction.
Make reading enjoyable. Kids are attracted to pictures, and therefore books with pictures like Children Encyclopedia is very helpful. Fairy tales and fables are also good books to start with. He will be curious to know more about the pictures he sees and will start asking questions. Find the words in the book that your kid can easily learn. Use his fingers to point the words and read them together slowly, syllable by syllable.
When your kid can already recognize the words, he will read them every now and then. Instead of laughing at him when he cannot pronounce the syllables properly, correct him patiently. Never practice baby talk, and read the words with their correct pronunciation. While traveling with your kid, he may see some billboards and posters along the way. Stop if you can, and allow him to practice his craft.
Finally, have a regular reading time at least once a day. Then you can increase the frequency later. However, don’t force him if he does not want to. Otherwise, he will not absorb the knowledge and may even show irritation. In such cases, let him relax and play with the other toys.
After all, reading is a continuous learning. The most important part is the parent’s motivation.
Every child must be loved, even if others think he does not deserve it.

I used to read to my son too even he was still barely a year old
now he reads Harry Potter books from cover to cover, hehe..
seriously, exposing them to books although they can’t read yet is a good way to make them appreciate reading.
great advice, as always, Sir Angel
i also have lots of books at home, waiting for my kids to pick them up
though gaming consoles,tv and other playthings seems to have more pull, i hope exposure to books will eventually motivate them to pick one up on their own.
Nice advice, keep em coming!
Parents should be the driving force to make their children to love books. Take care Sir Angel.
