Valentines Myths – Three Gifts that Gentlemen Men Should Not Give to their Sweethearts
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and I am pretty sure most gentlemen are now preparing a date or looking for a wonderful gift for their sweethearts. I am not fond of believing in myths, but I want to share to you what I have just watched on national TV courtesy of Unang Hirit at GMA-7. Note that these are only superstitious belief, and you may or may not believe it.
The most popular gifts to please a girl during Valentine’s Day are flowers, jewelry, and valuable things. However, some older people believe that ladies should not receive such gifts. This is due to bad indication that they will suffer when they get married. But after I explained why, I will share to you some practical ways to save money on Valentine’s Day.
According to myth, ladies can accept flowers especially roses from their boyfriends or suitors. However, gentlemen should remove the torn before giving them. This is to show that their intention is clean and they will not hurt their sweethearts when they get married. In reality, the torn can really hurt anyone who touches it.
Other gifts according to myths that should not be given are jewelries such as necklace and bracelets. According to superstitious belief, such jewelries are symbols of controlling one’s life and being dominant over them. But if a girl wants to accept such gifts, she should be the one to wear them for themselves and not the traditional way.
Lastly, shoes or any foot ware is not advisable to give to a lady. Unlike the previous gifts, this concerns the gentlemen. Note that shoes are something that are being stepped on, which means the gentleman may be overpowered by the their sweethearts when they get married. Husbands will then be mere followers of their wives.
But if you will ask me, gifts have no relation with what may happen when you’re married. For me, marriage is a unity of two hearts crazy in love with each other. It is a lifetime commitment which is why couples should think more than twice before going into it. I should know, I have been married for more than 12 years, and our love for each other continues to grow each day.
As I have promised, here is a great post by Fitz Villafuerte about cheap but fun ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Hi Angel,
You are one of the three bloggers- members of Filipinos Unite!!! who have been given first crack to make a post about the Philippines and the Filipinos. This can be a personal anecdote, a historical or cultural event in the Philippines. This must showcase the beauty and tradition of the Philippines or the Filipino people. The post will simultaneously be linked with Filipinos Unite!!! and Bloggers Complaint for at least 3 days. Should you pass up this chance, we will give your slot to the next in line in the order of membership in the registry. Please notify us if you have already made the post by commenting on my blog or by sending an email to melalarilla@gmail.com. Thanks and God bless.
I was also able to watch that episode of Unang Hirit and it’s really interesting. Now guys have an additional “excuse” for giving a Valentine’s gift that’s less expensive. Hehe.
Anyway, thanks for the special mention and link love.
Hi Angel,
You are tagged at my K.I.S.S. blog. I don’t normally do tags especially if it’s about me personally but this one is different and I can’t resist doing it since it’s a Christian tag. I always want to spread God’s message of love around the world. Please do the tag not for me but for Christ. Thank you very much and God bless you always.
Fitz – I am glad we have the same interest when it comes to TV shows. Thanks for your useful post.
Mel – Thanks for the invite. I will try to make a post about your requests, as the purpose is really very good cause. God Bless!
