The End of Money War and My All-time Favorite Love Poem

If you are not a big fan of GMA-7’s Korean telenovela – Money War, then you are missing one-third of your life. I did not watch all the episodes, but I understand clearly what the message wanted to convey. In case you missed it, it is a good story of how money can do badly to us.

It focused on people involved in private money lending business, and how good they are. It emphasized how you can be successful in it, but be the worst nightmare for your clients. While there is a bit touch of romance, this was not delivered as sweet as lovers would expect. Actually, it was very uncommon but realistic. In fact, the ending was sad but was meant to be.

Noah (the lead male character) was killed on his wedding day with Julie, even before the wedding ceremony began. This just proves that the writers really did not focus on the love story. If they did not allow Noah to die, the moral lesson will not be emphasized. If you listened carefully to each dialogue, you will love the show even better. They are hitting right on the nail.

Each character from Wilson (the handsome, but greed bad guy) to Pablo (the mentor who taught Wilson and Noah about money lending); from Charmaine (the former wife of Noah) to Madamme Claudia (grandmother of Charmaine and a bad money lending icon), up to even the smallest character, the dialogue was well-crafted. Bogart, the man who saved five-billion cash money and hides them even from his wife turned into a monster, and eventually killed Noah.

But what are the moral lessons? I want you to take note of them, and learn from them. Money that you got from evil activities will not do any good to you. You cannot cover up wrongdoings by doing good things, you must pay for it. If you want to make money, help others make money. The last one is my favorite – you cannot buy love, simply because it’s absolutely free!

Speaking of love, here’s my all-time favorite love poem. I made it for my wife when we just started going steady – around 18 years ago. I cannot remember the exact date, but I am sure there’s no special occasion. I cannot find any copy anymore, but I still remember all the lines. I will never forget the title because it is the combination of our names – Angel and Mylene, which eventually became the name of our one and only daughter. Here it goes.

Angelene

Is this the world we are living in?
Is this real love we are sharing?
Then why don’t you look at the children,
Who are born every now and then?
How can they be the hope of our future?
When even their welfare is not sure?
And yet, we have gone too far
Look at the victims of war
A government with so much corruption
Eating us all and the entire nation
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
Poor children with a broken home
Teachers who cannot teach,
Education is only for the rich
Hungry people but nothing to eat
Homeless family living in the street
Sweet bitches and child prostitution
Is electric chair the only solution?
But I know it’s not yet too late,
For as long as we have faith
To ourselves and to our All Mighty Creator
For He is our one and only Savior!
Yes, this is the world we are living in
And this is real love we are sharing
That’s why I really thank you, my Mylene
Because this world will not be wonderful without…Angelene!

Happy Valentines, Mama….and Happy Birthday too!

  • Hi Angel,

Money and love never make a good combination and hopefully one day people will realize that all we have to give is love. It is worth more than money and real love lasts over lifetimes.

Glad your family is recovering and sending you all blessings of love.

    Take care.
