Allowing your Little Children on Playgrounds
Parents love to see their little children playing with their toys, but some are hesitant to allow them to be in playgrounds. As a child, it is also important for them to be exposed in playgrounds together with other children. This is not only for their physical development, but also for them to improve their social awareness. A house with a huge backyard is definitely an advantage.
However, parents should also be aware about their safety while they are outside their home. A playground equipment therefore, should carefully be chosen to avoid accident before they buy one. It is a must that they check the quality of material, as well as the safety concerns of the product.
Let’s say for example a swingset which is the most common playing equipment that children love. Make sure that the edges were properly sanded and without any sharp portion. The chain should be coated to prevent your child’s little fingers from pinching. Swings made from metals may be cheaper, but rust will damage them sooner or later. Meanwhile, molded plastics will make your child feel more comfortable. Another playground favorite is the tire swing, and the only difference is that tires are being used instead of molded plastic seats. Nevertheless, the same concern should also be applied.
As an additional safety precaution, you should also consider the age and weight of your child before you buy them any kind of playground equipment. The space of your place also matters since your child will not enjoy a crowded one. It is said that an allowance of less than 6 feet is considered unsafe for them. Therefore, it is fine if you over estimate your backyard rather than taking the safety of your child into risk.
In the end, buying a high quality and safe playground equipment is not only for your children to enjoy with, but also an investment for the future generation to come.

There is a lot of truth in what you say, however, sometimes we fall into the trap of making playgrounds too safe. Our children to need adventure, they need to learn about danger and yes, they need to get the occasional scratch, bump and bruise. It these challenges that help them survive as adults.
We need to think back on our childhood – did we have super safe playground equipment? Did we survive? Did we have FUN?
Let our kids have fun, have adventure – we cannot keep them wrapped in cotton wool forever. I wrote a post about it on my blog – hope you get a minute to have a read.
As a subscriber, I enjoy reading your posts – keep them coming.

Hi Les,
I am so happy that you still enjoy reading my posts, and I suppose you know me online since 2007 when I am still an active EC member.
Thanks!
Playgrounds are an important place for children but playground safety is the responsibility, firstly, of the supervising parent, but also of the owners of the playground and the general population of the area it is in. It isn’t only your kids you need to watch; you need to be on the lookout for other children behaving dangerously.
