Help Ondoy Victims Recover from Trauma
We are seeing the effect of Ondoy for about a week now, from TV news to social networking sites. As of this moment, more than 240 were confirmed dead and damages worth to almost 2.7 billion pesos. The Philippine government and private organizations are continuously distributing relief goods, and other nations are also extending their help. Unfortunately, there are still those who were not yet being reached by relief operation.
Their health is also now at stake especially children, as evacuation centers are getting more overcrowded. It is also sad to know that there are angry victims and are now battling for food, which means the effect of Ondoy is getting worst. While all of us now may be willing to help, donations are not just enough. Besides the lack of food, clothing, and medicine, Ondoy victims are also suffering from trauma, and this might be a bigger problem.
It is not enough that we donate money or goods, since it will be only temporary. The victims don’t just need a helping hand but also a shoulder to cry on. They need to shout their pain, and release their sorrow. They need people who are wiling to hear their sad stories, and allow them to cry. Therefore, I suggest that we also talk to them and listen to them like a friend.
I was deeply touched by an interview to a victim, who lost all the members of his family. This include his mother, wife, and children. He felt so guilty that he lost control of his youngest child and eventually drown. While there were those lucky enough, most of them already lost their self-confidence and we must help them to regain it. After listening to them, it will be also helpful if we act as their inspiration to go on in spite of everything. and they can overcome the lost and sorrow.
Right now, local TV stations are accepting donations and distributing them from time to time, as well as different private groups. Students, and even the affected ones are also helping to re-pack and distribute. But until when? No, I am talking about the material things but rather their steps to go back to their normal lives again. I therefore suggest to have a free seminar about personal development, which can help them a lot while starting a new life.
Meanwhile, another potential storm is coming by the name of Pepeng. According to reports, it is much stronger than Ondoy so I hope it will not add problems to the victims. But I strongly suggest that all of us be ready for the worst.
Fortunately, our place was not greatly affected by the fury of Ondoy. Me and my family is safe, although we had a more difficult time making a living. Right now, I don’t have enough money or material things to donate, but I include them in my prayers. I also hope this post can help somehow.

I just hope that the next typhoon won’t pass Metro Manila. The whole Phase 7 of our subdivision was still submerged in thigh-deep flood water level.
kawawa talaga yong mga namatayan, napakasakit isipin na sa isang iglap lang buong pamilya nya wala na.
Even here in our place in South Cotabato dumaan kagabi ang malakas na buhos ng ulan at buhawi maraming bahay ang nasira, nawalan kami ng electricity. Fortunately, hindi ganoon ka grabe ang nasira.
Let us Pray na hindi na maulit ang napakalakas na bagyo.
