How to Promote a Blog with Multiple Topics
Recently, a certain Asthme left a comment on one of my blog posts. This is when I announced that I now have a personal blog, which is incidentally a blog with multiple topics.
According to him, he wants to combine his blogs with three different topics. It seems though that he would like to follow my path in blogging since his blog topics are almost the same as mine. However, he wants to hear some advices from me. Below is his full comment and my suggestions.
I have been a follower of your blog for some time now, but I missed this chance of asking for some suggestions.
I am really passionate to blog about marriage and parenting but not seem to increase the traffic. I have another blog about blogging tips and I can say that I am getting more readers maybe because the topic is more popular.
I am now in the process of combining the three topics in a single blog. Will you be kind enough to give me some advices on how to invite visitors from different worlds? As well as other types of blog promotion.
Before anything else, I want to share how Father Blogger dot Com was born. Back in 2007, I have three separate blogs. My first blog is about parenting tips, the second is about marriage tips, while the third one is about blogging tips. All of them are using the free hosting service of Blogger. But since it keeps me too busy promoting each of them, I decided to combine them in one blog. That time, I thought it was a big mistake since blogging tips and family tips are extremes to each other and I will find it very difficult to win loyal followers.
Actually, it is and until now I am still having a hard time promoting this blog. I asked advices from top bloggers, and almost all of them told me to have three separate blogs again. However, I am quite hard-headed and I just analyzed how I can be able to promote my blog successfully.
Anyway, here is how I promote my blog, and hope it will be helpful to Asthme as well as to others who would want to know how to promote a blog with multiple topics.
I used to submit all my blog posts to tons of social bookmarking sites manually, and it really requires me to be very busy. However, I choose the right social bookmarking sites that I think can attract visitors to my blog. I also choose the most appropriate category for each submission. Submitting blog posts to social bookmarking sites is not only promoting your blog, but also increasing your back links.
I also used to be active on top forums such as Digital Point, Google Community, and Families dot Com. However, I noticed I am not getting traffic to my parenting tips from blogging forums. On the other hand, I have no traffic to my blogging tips from family related forums. Later, I decided to create a page for each topic and use their links to my forum signatures instead of my homepage. If you will notice, I have a Blogging Tips page, a Parenting Tips page, and a Marriage Tips page.
Finally, I try to optimize my keywords as much as possible especially when it comes to blogging tips. But since I found out that parenting and marriage topics are not really popular in Google search, I promote these topics in various ways and promoting them offline seem to be most effective method. This means I tell them to my friends and relatives, and they are the ones who help me promote my blog. Anyway, this is what we call word-of-mouth promotion or viral marketing.

it is hard for me to combine also my other blogs. so i leave it that way.
Your decision of creating separate pages for Blogging Tips, Parenting Tips and Marriage Tips was the most practical decision. You and also a Home Improvement Tips page to your blog – I think it will supplement your blog well and also draw some more visitors as Home Making is a highly searched niche on Google.

With my blog, about shared parenting initiatives in Australia, I too found that word of mouth, more than anything else, was the most effectve way to promote the blog.
This has taken years of effort unfortunately, but has allowed me to get to know like-minded sites/bloggers, and much of the site referrals I get are from these sites.
My blog is about my interacial marriage, and my parenting in a family with cultural differences.
I also have thought about adding a new topic within my blog, but have been uncertain how I could promote both topics. Thanks for the insight.
