How to Stop your Child from Bullying others
It makes a parent mad when a child is being bullied, but what if your child does the bullying? Teachers and fellow parents keep on complaining about your child’s attitude and it can be humiliating on your part especially if you think you have been a good parent. So before starting a fight with them or hurting your child, you should know why and how to stop your child from bullying others.
You are spoiling him
Being kind to your child is a must, but you may not be aware that you are already spoiling him. Giving what your child wants every time he asks can make him feel invincible. As a child, this feeling can get into his mind and he cannot differentiate right from wrong. He will think that he is superior over other children especially to the smaller ones. As a parent, we should also monitor our actions on how we show our love for them as too much of anything is also bad.
He is not aware that it is wrong
Children are naughty and some parents just accept it that way. They assume that it is normal for a child especially boys to be offensive, so they ignore it. Although being active is part of boys play, he must be able to realize when to stop because he is already hurting others. Some parents are not aware that bullying is not only about physical, but also emotional. Words can hurt too and in fact, the effect is more torturing. Talking to your child more often can help you visualize what kind of attitude he has.
He is being influenced
Children absorb what they see and hear and this is part of their learning. It can be that his older brothers or even father does the same thing to him, and he is just imitating them. Physical sports like boxing and wrestling are the favorite of young boys because they feel like a hero. There are some TV shows that look like they were created for children but actually, they are not. At his age, he still cannot control his imagination so parents need to be watchful.
He is calling for an attention
Children needs full attention and if he is not getting it, he will do anything just to be noticed. Some parents are too busy with their profession or business, and they do not have enough quality time for their children. If a good child does not feel affection, he will probably do the opposite thing hoping that this time, he will be attended. Most likely, a bullying child chooses a victim not because he can overpower him but also because he is envious of him. Unfortunately, some parents do not know who they are working for.
Every child must be loved, even if others think he does not deserve it.
