But the worst thing that can happen is that they are getting few, and you cannot force them to stay. One thing is for sure, you are doing some things that your subscribers do not like. As a blog subscriber myself, here are some of the main factors that stops me from subscribing.

Long and boring posts

While it is alright to write long posts, they should not be boring. On the contrary, they must be more interesting as they are reading it. This is where your creativity comes in. What it takes to be a Ratatouille Blogger

Anyone can cook – this is the belief of the great chef Gusteau that inspired Remy, the rat that has unique talent in sniffing and tasting good food and eventually became a little chef. The video clip below will remind about the award-winning film Ratatouille.

Actually, this is the latter part, in which I liked the most. This is the scene where the famous food critic Anton Ego announced his good review about the food he tasted, even if he knew that Remy “cooked” it.

Now, let us relate this to blogging. Anyone can blog – and this is true as it does not really take an Internet savvy to make a blog. Read the rest of this entry »

Family against Poverty: Blog Action Day 2008

I would like to reserve this post as my small but sincere contribution to Blog Action Day 2008, and poverty as the main topic. This event is now being joined by thousands of bloggers, organizations, and business sectors around the globe. Here is my share and hopefully, it can help.

Poverty is a deadly disease that no one has provided the best solution yet, although some of us got close to it. Not that there is none, but it seems that the medication being given is only first aid, as doctors would call it. Social groups, wealthy businessmen and concerned citizens are going hand in hand but in effect, the source of the virus is not being attacked. In fact, I do not even believe that giving money to the poor is the better approach.

I should know, simply because I have been there! I started to earn a living at the age of 10, and was force to stop during High Shool for three consecutive years due to severe poverty. I do not need to mention more details here since anyone can easily find them at my About Me page and Interviews. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Save Money during Grocery Shopping

Admit it, life is hard these days wherever you are. Oil prices are increasing rapidly and sad to say, it seems to be uncontrollable. As this happens, a fast chain reaction follows up to the basic family needs such as groceries. The best that we can do is to think of ways on how to save money when going to the grocery. And because I am among those who are greatly affected, I searched for some tips through the Internet. Although there may be a lot of them, here are some that I tried at home and proven effective.

Make a comprehensive plan

One may think that making a list of groceries is enough to save money. Although it may help when you control what you buy, it would be better if you also consider the place of the grocery. How far is it from your home? Have you tried comparing of the price between the farther and the nearer store? A nearer place does not mean that the price is cheaper, as it also depends on the location. If there is a warehouse around, their price is much lower. In addition, prices are usually lower during mid-week days and a once-a-week shop is better. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Maintain a Family Budget Effectively

One way to maintain a happy family is to be financially stable. When you are able to complete the daily needs and save a bit, there is a lesser chance of family feud. But to do this effectively, all members should cooperate and participate.

Parents should sit down with the children and discuss this matter seriously. Below is a good list of money saving tips that I think is effective and easy to follow.

Keep yourself busy

If you are busy besides work and school, you may tend to spend less money. Your concentration will be more on the extra activities that you are doing, instead of thinking of less important things to buy like junk food. For students, you can do summer jobs during vacation or be a volunteer in your community. For parents, it is better to stay at home and spend quality time for the kids instead of going out with friends. Read the rest of this entry »

Why some Families are not Happy

Family is the major source of happiness for most of us and it cannot be denied that living in a happy family makes the world a wonderful place to live in. It is in our family that we learn to support, care and love each other. Here in the Philippines, we are known to have a custom of close family ties. Filipinos care so much for their families more than anything else and most of the time, married children are still living with their parents. But why are there still some families that are happy, here and all over the world? Here are my observations.

Financial problems

If the necessities of a family are not being well provided, the children will suffer or the older child will give way. But due to pride, some siblings quarrel and most of them are blaming their parents. There are also others who do illegal things just to provide financial support but in the end, the whole family suffers. Some parents leave their child to someone they think is capable to provide their needs. Read the rest of this entry »
