Recently, I was invited again by Doc Joey of Tsinay to join Pinoy Parenting Blog Carnival which is now on the 9th edition. This time, it is about birthdays. Although I can make a happy post about the past birthdays of my children, I decided to make it different in honor of my late father, Mr. Renato Cuala. Let me give you some ideas on what kind of person he is.
He was already legally separated to my mother, and living with my stepmother when I live with him. It is not a secret that I start to earn a living at the age of 10. This is because my father was a simple laborer, and his earnings were not really sufficient for us. My stepmother sells some food stuff but still, it was not enough.
My father is not an intelligent man, he is a genius! He was once a university scholar taking up Chemical Engineering, although he stopped on his fourth year. He is very proficient in English, brilliant in math, a good political analyst in his own right, a very wide reader and can play chess blind folded. He is also a frustrated writer, and a great poet. Family is the major source of happiness for most of us and it cannot be denied that living in a happy family makes the world a wonderful place to live in. It is in our family that we learn to support, care and love each other. Here in the Philippines, we are known to have a custom of close family ties. Filipinos care so much for their families more than anything else and most of the time, married children are still living with their parents. But why are there still some families that are happy, here and all over the world? Here are my observations.

But due to pride, some siblings quarrel and most of them are blaming their parents. There are also others who do illegal things just to provide financial support but in the end, the whole family suffers. Some parents leave their child to someone they think is capable to provide their needs. Read more of this >>

I would like to reserve this post as an entry to the Pinoy Parenting Blog Carnival 7th edition hosted by The Working Mom with the theme – How do you discipline your kids?
From the title itself, it will tell you how strict I am especially to my daughter. I must admit, I hit her a few times when I think she deserves one. This is the best reminder that I think so she won’t repeat the same mistakes again. I am not going to justify my action but I just want to elaborate further.
There are three major wrongdoings that I do not want my daughter to commit - negligence especially when it comes to her studies and to her brother, complete disrespect and discriminating others. But this occurred only when she was 7 to 11 years old. The last time was Christmas day of last year and I was not able to control myself then. Read more of this >>

I would like to reserve this post as my entry to Pinoy Parenting Blog Carnival 6th edition hosted by Guardian Angel (which happens to be Yours Truly) of Happy Family Matters, in which the subject is the enchanting question - What Type of Parent are you?
I have two children, a girl at 12 and a boy at 7. Since I got married at 30, you can see that there may be a wide generation gap that I am trying to solve. Actually, being a jolly father and a street smart that I am makes it easier to communicate with them. I grew up in the wild streets in Manila, Philippines’ capital city that is why I always have a story to share to my daughter. Old songs, movies and even social events are the best topics we are sharing when we are together and as if there is no more tomorrow. I am very open to any kind of question. Read more of this >>
